Ada Lovelace works incredibly hard to secure top quality placements for our T Level students. We do this by spending time building relationships with local businesses, local educational establishments, laboratories and other potential partners. One professional relationship which we have nurtured and built over time is with Professor Anastasia Sofroniou who works at the University of West London (UWL). As a Professor of Mathematics at UWL, Anastasia is also Chair or WinSTEM and STEM Ambassador UK and she has seen already the value that T Level students can add.
Last month four of our Year 12 T Level students - Luka, Mohammad, Paul and Lorenzo were selected to undertake a two-week work placement at the University of West London. This is an overview of what they did.
During the two weeks they were exposed to various departments and faculties. On one day they had a fun day at the Festival of Architecture which UWL and WInSTEM organised. They took part in the Architectural workshops (photos below), where they designed a community complex with materials they were given. Seeing them engaging in the activities was great.
They also attended a Computing lecture and took part in UWL's Open day, experimenting (i.e.playing) with the game technology and virtual reality devices.
The students had a constructive and enjoyable time at UWL, shadowing Dr Anastasia Sofroniou and seeing firsthand how she manages her hectic and full workdays as well as working with the technicians and other colleagues at times.
Prof Anastasia told us the Ada Lovelace T Level students were all excellently behaved and that it was a pleasure having them these past two weeks. She wishes them all the very best in their future endeavours.
We wish to thank Anastasia for her support and mentorship of our students. Head of Year 12 and 13 Mr Knox said that “the students have had such a brilliant time and getting access to such a wide range of experiences will certainly help the students move forwards with their post-18 pathways and careers”.
Watch this space where we will be adding a diary blog from the student's perspective.
