We are beyond proud of the Ada Lovelace students who took part in the First Lego League regional competition at the weekend, hosted at Bechtel offices in London. It is the first time Ada Lovelace High School had entered the competition and so we were genuinely shocked when the Championship winner was announced and it was us!!
Each team had to present an Innovation project, present on the design evolution of their robot, explain how the team had embodied the 'Core Values' during the design process and compete their robot in three rounds of the timed competition. Ms Young, Head of Computing and Girls STEM Coordinator at Ada Lovelace put together the team and expertly guided them through the process. She commented that the team worked together superbly, listening carefully to the feedback given after the first round, modified the code and adjusted positions. The team were thrilled to achieve full marks for all the challenges they had programmed.
The students involved were Olivia, Isobel, Alice, Emma, Zane, Gergely, Zac. And also not able to attend on the day, but helping with the preparation were Hussain and Ella.
Ada Lovelace High School Chair of Governors Emma Harniman, was volunteering at the event on the day. She commented that “They were amazing advocates for themselves and the school, and I felt like a very proud parent!”
Having won the Regionals, our team of students are now invited to the Nationals which take place in May - we will update you on their progress!
Our thanks go to Ms Young for guiding the team through this experience and for providing consistent support and expert advice all the way through.
