Yesterday the whole school celebrated Ada Lovelace Day with an incredible schedule of events based around the theme of 'Good gifts used creatively'.
The lower school took part in some interesting workshops including: an agile thinking workshop for the Year 7s, a Code Avengers/Cyber Skills workshop for Year 8 and a Maths Codes and Conundrums workshop for Year 9.
The upper school schedule included a SkillsBuild workshop for Year 10 and an Amazon workshop for Year 11.
The whole school attended a Keynote speech from Konnie Huq (television and radio presenter, children's author and STEM ambassador) who shared her personal experience on applying her creative and science skills to shape her career and passions. We are so grateful to Konnie for spotlighting the amazing pathway Ada Lovelace paved for today's students and the opportunities open to them.
T Levels
Our T Level students benefitted from a rich variety of guests and workshops.
In the morning our Year 12 students pitched their business ideas to a panel of judges made up from external partners. Our Year 13 students joined a talk from 3 UWL scientists. Amazon delivered a presentation about their personal routes into industry and then invited the students to join a Q&A session. IBM delivered a careers talk to our Year 12 Digital students and the session was so engaging that it overran because of the great questions about career pathways and tips on how to be successful in applying for degree apprenticeships! T Level students also enjoyed talks from Natwest, Heathrow and a digital marketing agency.
A highlight was the business networking event which took place at break time. A number of our T Level students joined this session. Firstly a panel of employers talked about what an industry placement at their company looked like, then some Ada Lovelace T Level alumni who are now on degree apprenticeships at Amazon shared their personal experience. It was then an opportunity for the T Level students to network with the employers in the room. It was such a pleasure to see the confidence and professionalism with which they approached employers and engaged them in business conversation. Their maturity was evident and a number of employers present commented on how impressive our students are. Suffice to say our T Level students also gained a number of valuable business connections from the session.
We are so grateful to all of our partners who came to yesterday's event. And to our guest speaker Konnie Huq. The day wouldn't be possible without them.
